History...

The Bay Outrigger Canoe Club was founded in October 2000 - a new club for the new millennium. The dream of President John Hayes, Bay Outriggers was to follow an OC1 and OC2 format, with the OC6 component scheduled for a later date.

Imagine John's surprise at the first 'semi-official' meeting when around twenty five men and women turned up to the new club house - Cronulla Sailing Club. A second hand OC6 canoe was purchased from Manly in order to accommodate the large membership within two weeks, with speculation on second and third canoes which will soon have to follow!...

Our first registration day proved to be a success with the club raising not only some much needed funds, but also raising an official membership of twenty nine paddlers. Despite the wind, the BBQ was well attended with forty or so members and their families present. Door prizes graciously donated by members, as well as more salad than you could poke a fork at proved to be the order of the day.

December 11th, 2000 saw the debut of 'Bay Outriggers' at the Koa Kai Regatta. Two women's and one men's short course crew were entered, none successful in achieving a place, but all highly successful in enjoying their paddling. Stay tuned for the next installment - as it happens.
